The Port of Mensabe has a rich history, dating back to 17th Century during the colonial time, and it was once the main port of Panamá; the importance of it arises after Pirate Morgan invaded the "Old Panama City" in 1670, and forced Spanish families to move out, finding shelter in the Azuero Area (Los Santos, Las Tablas, Herrera, Chitre, etc) -all these cities were builded thanks to the materials that arrived at this Area through the Port of Mensabe, as the primary way of transportation by that time was by the sea. Historically and until these days the landscape of this Port has attracted all sort of artists, and it has been subject of many paintings.

The Port of Mensabe, actually is one of the few ports that had survive the Colonial Era, and our land besides being one of the few lands remaining on the shores of Panamá, is probably the last one right-next to a port embracing this rich character.
The Port of Mensabe is 10 minutes form Las Tablas (Famous for the Carnivals and Festival de La Pollera, festivities that bring to the area thousands of people, increasing on a yearly basis the quantity of visitors and tourists), and 15 minutes from the Candelaria Airport.

The area is enabled with potable water and electricity.

It is important to mention that with the recent enactment of Law No. 80 dated November 8, 2012 whereby Incentives are granted for Tourism Activities in Panama for the purposes of promoting the construction of new public tourism accommodation establishments, tax incentives are granted to companies which, prior compliance with the mandatory requirements, register with the National Tourism Register.

Following, we list some of these tax incentives:

*Full 5-year exemption of import tax, for a term of five years, in construction materials, and ten years for the introduction of materials, goods, furniture and equipment for the exclusive use of the public tourism accommodation establishments, previously registered with the National Tourism Register.

*Full 15-year exemption of real estate tax on plots and improvements used in tourism development activities registered with the National Tourism Register. In the case of multi-purpose buildings, the area occupied by the tourism establishment shall be segregated to apply for the tax exemption.

*15-year exemption of taxes, contributions, encumbrances or duties of any kind imposed on the use of wharfs or airports built by the company. These facilities may be used for free by the State and pursuant to the corresponding regulations.
*Full 15-year exemption of income tax deriving from the tourism activity operated by the company.
*5-year corporate income tax exemption.
