Private & safe mountain getaway for those seeking a slower paced lifestyle, retirement or an excellent vacation spot to de-stress. Our home is located in Pilangosta, a small, quiet village 20 min. outside of Nicoya. Our town is very safe, there is no crime and it is possible to sleep with the windows & doors open at night, and be able to travel, knowing your belongings are safe at home; unlike at many beach towns, where most houses have bars on their windows and tall barbed wire fences around their properties.

The house is surrounded by lush vegetation, tropical plants and flowers, fruit trees, such as bananas, plantains, papayas, oranges, limes, cashews, mangos, avocados and Jamaican cherries, also teak trees, mahogany and two giant Guanacaste trees for shade. We are surrounded by pastures used for horses and livestock & rolling hills, yet we are conveniently located and very close to a gas station, supermarkets, bakery, butchers, pharmacy, post office, gift shops, clothing stores, pizzeria, restaurants, veterinarian, hardware stores, a park, church, dentists, clinic, hospital, internet café, video store, liquor stores, ice cream shop, a public pool and recreation center and daily direct buses to Nicoya and the capital city San Jose. The town is very well maintained and clean. We have two international airports, one in Liberia, about 1 hr 15 min away and the other in San Jose, about 3 hrs 30 min away. A few minutes down the road is the Monte Alto National Reserve with great hiking trails. The beaches, Playa Carrillo & Playa Samara are a 35 min. scenic drive away and are clean, unspoiled and picture perfect. Our area sits in the Blue Belt, which has been mention on National Geographic. It is also important to note that Pilangosta is located about 500m above sea level and always has a nice breeze coming off of the valley. Our home was completed in 2009 and appraised at $325,000 in March 2011 and our taxes are less than $100 a year. We have a 20' / 6m storage container sitting on our property and also two Ford F150 trucks which are all available for sale. The house is minimally furnished and comes with two flat screen TV's.

Home has 2441.25 sf / 225.6m2.

Foundation is 8” / 20 cm thick, double steel reinforced concrete, the footings are 36" / 91cm deep and the walls are steel reinforced concrete Superbloque construction with closed box-steel roof beams. We have insulation in the roof and terrace roof to protect from the sun and the heat. The roof is green 50 year galvanized metal with a 39” / 1m overhang all around. The soffits and fascia are finished with stained and polyurethaned teak. In the roof are four skylights 8’0’L x 27.5”W / 2.44m x 70cm, two over the kitchen & living room and two in the upstairs bedroom.

9’0”/ 2.75m wall height and 18’0” / 5.50m high cathedral ceiling in kitchen & living room. The main floor is barrier free, there are no changes in level, stairs, steps or thresholds.

All ceilings throughout the house are tongue and groove teak, stained dark brown with three coats of urethane on both sides for added moisture protection. Light taupe & beige colored travertine-look clay tile throughout house, 20” x 20” / 50cm x 50cm size. 1/8” grout line and 3” / 8cm tiled baseboards (so mop doesn’t hit the stucco walls). Tile on terrace, front porch and back patio is a brick colored, non-slip clay tile, 18” x 18” / 45cm x 45cm size with ¼” grout line.

Entire house is double coated with 25 year stucco finish outside and inside. Walls are deliberately not 100% smooth for added rustic appearance. Stucco can be painted if desired. There is no hot water tank, but a European style Tempra flow-through ceramic water heater that supplies every faucet inside the house. One 65,000 BTU European style split-unit air conditioner in the living room, suspended on the ceiling cools the entire house, another 8000 BTU split-unit in the bathroom and a 22,000 BTU split-unit in the master bedroom. It gives the option to keep the house open and only cool the bedroom.

All exit doors are solid cedar with double pane glass inserts, have four Stanley heavy duty 4” brass hinges. Baldwin dead bolt door locks and European style door handles with key locks, in antique brass finish. Interior doors are solid melina w/ one single recessed panel, three Stanley 4” brass hinges and Baldwin door handles, also in antique brass finish.

Cabinets: Custom built, ¾” solid cedar (no plywood or particle board), dark cherry finish inside & out, ½” overlay, flat panel doors & drawers, 97” total height , uppers 42” high, 14” deep (2” deeper than std. uppers) w/ clear glass inserts, 24” deep cabinet over fridge, solid wood refrigerator side support panel. Island has two 36” wide base cabinets w/ 4 hidden drawers inside. All drawers have heavy duty steel, full extension, ball bearing tracks.
