Being an integral part of the municipality of Marinha Grande, the village of Vieira de Leiria is located 14 kilometers from the county seat and 24 kilometers from the city of Leiria, capital of the district. It is located on the left bank of the River Lis and 4 kilometers from the coast, at the northern end of the Leiria Pine Forest.
The first mentions of this village date back to the reign of King Dinis, with the first settlers settling near the mouth of the Lis River. It was elevated to the category of parish in 1740.
