Carrara is internationally famous for the marble quarries dating back to Roman times and its almost flawless white stone, prized for centuries by famous sculptors from Michelangelo to Henry Moore (the stone for Michealangelo's David came from Carrara). Local marble has been used in the town's Duomo in the Piazza del Duomo and the cathedral square also contains Michelangelo's house used when he visited Carrara to select blocks of marble for his sculptures. Within 40 minutes' drive the Apuane Alpi have spectacular views over the coast and quarries.
The apartment is set at the foot of Monteverde, ten minutes from the beach (Marina di Carrara, ten minutes from Carrara town and only 75 minutes from the ski slopes.
