The Garajau area is the most popular holiday resort in Madeira next to Funchal. Many Germans built a holiday home here and settled permanently. There are many villas with beautiful manicured gardens, but hoteliers have also discovered the beautiful location on the gently sloping hillside and have built several tourism units here.
Here there are also several options for bathing and beaches: either on the coast of Lido Galomar or on the Lido Rocamar. While the former is public and can be reached via elevator (entrance), the Lido Rocamar is intended for hotel guests only. A small coarse pebble public beach, Reis Magos, can be found at the Hotel Oasis Atlantic.
In Garajau there is a panoramic terrace and cable car, Ponta do Garajau, from where you have a wonderful view of Funchal. In 1927, a larger-than-life statue of Christ was erected here. Here there are also some shops and restaurants, as well as a small supermarket.
Cristo Rei Beach is about 800 metres away, while Funchal Marina is 8.6 km away. Cristiano Ronaldo Madeira International Airport is 13 km from the property.
