Matriz is a Portuguese parish in the municipality of Ribeira Grande with a geographical area of about 10.82 km2 and 3 777 inhabitants (2021).
With a geographical area of about 10.82 km2, which includes the places of Caldeiras and Lombadas, the parish of Matriz confronts the sea and the parishes of Conceição, Ribeirinha (municipality of Ribeira Grande) and São Miguel (municipality of Vila Franca do Campo). The toponymy of this parish Matriz is due to the fact that it is the mother parish of Ribeira Grande, both geographically and historically.
It should also be noted that the Matrix is the nerve center of all the services of the Council and the City.
