Later, in 1874, its restoration was financed through contributions from residents of the region. In the twentieth century, a violent storm and earthquake of 1969 caused further damage to the church, and it was necessary to renovate it again.
Due to the existence of the beach, the locality is visited by numerous tourists, Portuguese and foreigners, the latter being mainly of British origin.
