The apartment is built on the foundations of a Roman tower which was demolished in medieval times to make way for stables and hay-barns for the peasants working for the Nobles of the castle. The castle, which still exists today, was a gift from the Sforza family to a traveling knight, Boccadiferro, as a thank you for his services around 1,000 AD.
